Summer Essentials: Etsy Fashion Edition

So I’ve decided to make a series of posts, entitled “Summer Essentials,” which will include some of my favorites ranging from fashion to beauty to skin care and all sort of inbetweeners.  So to kick off the series, I’ve decided to start with my Etsy Fashion Edition. These are going to be some of my picks for the hottest summer trends this year, which will keep you looking fresh and beautiful, as well as staying out of the same Target bikini everyone else is wearing. So let’s start it off with a couple items you can’t skip past this summer (the full list is available on Etsy, just click HERE). As always, click through the images to link over to where you can buy them!

The first thing anyone thinks of when summer comes to mind is: bikini season. Every is busting their butts trying to get in shape to fit into that hot swimsuit. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the bold print trend that is currently going on and this bottom from PeaceOfParadise is killing it! In the good way of course!

If you’re not into bold prints, or maybe you just want a little something more demure, these high waisted bottoms from TheJoiofSummer are fabulous.

We’ve also picked out a few items because it’s not just about what’s on your body, you gotta rock the look from head to toe, so here’s how we would do it.

And we don’t think any look is complete without a little bit of protection. Here’s sunblock bars from Wunderbars

Head on over to Etsy, to view our full Summer Essentials list and see what other items we’ve picked out for you. Trust us, you don’t want to miss it!

Outfit Ideas: First Date, Summer Casual

Summer is finally, officially here, on this side of the globe, and it’s time for all those cute summer romances to begin, so here’s an outfit post for a casual first date, or maybe something for those of you relationship long timers, or even if you’re single and going out with the girls for the night. It’s pretty much an outfit idea you can use repeatedly for different occassions where you look casual and cool and little more dolled up than the everyday. It’s even something I would wear to the office! So let’s get started.

Every outfit should have a piece that starts as it’s foundation. Usually you’ll be tempted to pick a top which stands out from every thing else and call that the base for your outfit, but for this, I’m going to start from the bottom up.

For this look, I like to start out with a nice dark denim jean, preferably with no signs of distress and I roll the bottoms of the legs into cuffs as high as I can roll them, which is usually mid calf. Or you can buy something like these Cuffed Premium Denim Skinnies from Forever 21. Skinnies are great at showing off your legs and rolling those cuffs shows a little bit of skin which adds a bit of sex appeal. This look is for a first date. We’re not trying to give away all the goodies, but a little teasing can go a long way, which is why I prefer pants over a dress for a first date.

Now that we have a foundation, we can start building on top of it. It’s summer, so remember what kind of weather it is when choosing a top. Long sleeves are going to be out of the question unless you really want to throw off the vibe of your whole night. Short sleeves are ok, but I really love this look with a sleeveless blouse.

I love the way sheer fabric looks, especially in a peachy tone. Find a light colored, flowy camisole top to pair with dark jeans. It will balance out the heaviness of the dark bottoms and give it more of a dressy summer feel, all whilst keeping the look super casual. I adore this Cascade Ruffle Cami from Forever 21 for this look.

Now for shoes. I feel shoes are crucial to finishing this look off. If you can’t walk in heels already, learn. Just kidding, I won’t force you to wear anything you’re not comfortable with, but I feel like the shoes are really what makes this look irresistibly sexy. You could alway wear a cute sandal or gladiator, or even a cute cork wedge but heels really finish this look off.

The picture doesn’t do these shoes justice, but these Bambi heels from Kate Preston are to die for. It’s a cream lacey mesh with ruffles which makes your feet look just incredible. I own this pair and my friends all tried them on as well and they make anyone look great. I can’t find them online anywhere, but they are currently available in stores at Off Broadway Shoes.

And then I like to finish this look off with a very simple accessory like this Chrysoprase Stone Pendant from Evie Jewelry Designs on Etsy.

I hope you all enjoy this look and let me know if there’s any special occassions you’d like to see an outfit idea for!

PS: This is a fitting repost considering this outfit was based off of what I wore on my first date with my partner and our anniversary is tomorrow. Hehe

Treasury Tuesday: Hechizo De Amor

In case you weren’t following my love life (I hope you’re not), you probably weren’t aware that I have a new man in my life and I’ve got all those little new relationship things going on still. I’m in the super cute phase of a new relationship where all I can think about is my man, so of course this week’s TT is based off of those feelings and those old romance movies and a whole bunch of summery, lovey dovey cliches. But come on, who doesn’t love these things deep down inside? Check out the full collection, Hechizo De Amor, or click on the pics to get a closer look at some of the items!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Style Review: Glass Heart Studios – 2G Twilight Squids

Sometimes you can’t help but fall madly in love with something when you see it. This is exactly how I felt when I stumbled upon Glass Heart Studio on Etsy. Here’s a little bit about the shop in their own words:

“Glass Heart is located in Portland, OR. The jewelry is designed by, Annermarie Hoffman, who is dedicated to making this world a more beautiful place, one pair of earrings at a time. Currently, all the jewelry is made from Pyrex Glass, a nonporous, hypoallergenic material, perfectly suited for those with allergies to metals. The raw colors come from manufactories here in Oregon, mostly within a 15 mile radius of the studio, and all jewelry is produced in state, by highly trained and extremely skilled artisans.”

It was by pure accident that I even found GHS on Etsy as I wasn’t in the market for new plugs, but when I saw the listing for a pair of 2G Lemon Squids, my heart melted. Unfortunately they sold to someone else before my next paycheck, but it wasn’t a complete letdown because I found the same style in a color combo called “Twilight.” These babies are GORGEOUS.

So let’s get onto the review! I’m going to be judging based on the plugs themselves, the price, my experience with the seller and shipping.

Let’s start off in chronological order. This is an Etsy based shop and while you can find the plugs on Body Art Forms, there is more selection and options for customizable plugs through Etsy. The shop is also really easy to navigate in comparison to shopping for hanging styles on BAF. GHS provides categories of plugs so you can select your size range and easily see what’s available in your size. Or if you’re just browsing and find a style/color you like but it’s not in your size, you can choose a custom order and select the hanging style and what color you want in the exact size you want. It’s a little pricier than the premade plugs, but worth it if you need something specific. The shop gets an A+ in my book.

Price wise, these plugs are a little bit expensive. If you have stretched ears, you know that this is true to most high quality jewelry you can buy. And if you haven’t been stretching for long or you’re still going up in sizes, you already know how hard it is to justify any sort of expensive jewelry for a size you won’t be staying at. The plugs I bought are originally priced $88 and are a size 2G. Since I’ve only been at a 2G for a month, it was easier to let the price slide considering I will be wearing this size for a while longer before my ears are ready to stretch again. If I was at a 12 or a 10G, I wouldn’t find it hardly worth the money, unless you planned on staying that size for a while. I know there are people who stretch their ears to be only slightly larger and if that’s you, go for these. I can say that when I bought these, GHS had a coupon code for 25% of your order using SPRINGSTOCK. Since then they have removed the coupon code from their shop announcements, but it’s always worth a try to see if it still works!

Shipping. This is what annoyed me. I feel (and I believe I have a right to say this as I sell products/art for a living) that time is everything. Especially in the realms of online ordering. Which is why it irked me it took about 2 weeks to finally ship my order. After 1 weeks and not hearing anything about my order having shipped, I contacted the seller. After a few more days of silence, I sent another message. It took a full week to hear back from them and the message I got felt like an excuse for being lazy. But that’s my interpretation. I still feel that for something I paid this much money for, I should have gotten a better vibe. Thumbs down.

Now onto the actual jewelry. These are gorgeous. There are small defects in the glass which detract from them a slight bit but are probably only noticeable to the wearer. They seem to be just a result of how the glass is made and therefore an inevitability. These are super light and feel incredibly fragile, but so far have proven to be sturdy. They catch the light beautifully and look incredibly gorgeous in my ears. After posting this picture to facebook, I got a call from one of my friends in Portland just to gush about how “sexy” these plugs were.

Overally, I’m incredibly pleased. Any negative experiences I had in purchasing these are seriously outweighed by how amazing they are and how comfortable they are to wear. I would definitely give them a shot if you’re in the market for some fancy new plugs!
